In the wake of earthquakes in Haiti and Chile, one cannot help but acknowledge that increasingly severe Earth changes are becoming a signature of the 21st century. These events have many wondering, "What do these disasters portend?"
According to Kiara Windriver M.A. MFT, psychotherapist and author, earth changes herald the processes of planetary transformation towards a higher form of consciousness – "a new earth."
In the face of media reports of doom and gloom, Windriver takes sustenance from the prophetic wisdom of yogi-sage Sri Aurobindo ( 1872-1950) who foresaw a new stage in the evolution of mankind. Together with French mystic Mira Alfassa, otherwise known as The Mother (1878-1973), Sri Aurobindo began a journey documenting this process of evolution on both personal and collective levels.
Man is in the Process of an Evolutionary Crisis
As early as the 1920s, Sri Aurobindo understood that man is on an evolutionary journey towards greatness. Man is part of a divine plan which oversees his growth through an evolutionary crisis he calls a “ supramental catastrophe.”
From this catastrophe, it's said that the Supermind will emerge, a cosmic consciousness greater than the mind of rational man. Some believe that it will be man`s task to assimilate this Supermind into the cellular consciousness of human life.
The Four Stages of Human Evolution
There are four stages in this evolutionary process.
- Animal Human Stage – A being who falls into this stage will have cellular and mental consciousness, but he is unaware of his individualized soul.
- Human Human Stage – This is a being capable of living from soul consciousness rather than human consciousness. Windriver suggests that this stage refers to what is commonly known as the "Cultural Creatives," a group in Western Society that has turned their backs on status quo to pursue lives based on altruism,creativity, alternate spirituality and green initiatives.
- The Overman – This is a being who has assimilated the "Mind of Light" into his cellular consciousness.
- Supramental Being – For some, this is the ultimate goal of the human species, to become a being that is the full incarnation of divinity and matter. The Supramental Beings are the Descended (or Ascended) Masters, a species in which the unity of spirit and matter will be fully realized on earth.
The Descent of New Vibratory Consciousness
Some believe what is known as Ascension, the emergence of new consciousness in man, is actually the descent of a "new vibratory consciousness” on earth, which the Mother claimed was set in motion in 1968.
It's said that this descent has initiated a transition period of chaos and destruction commonly identified with the mystery of 2012. Yet man need not despair because the vibratory consciousness is also a power of harmonization and “man`s fractured consciousness will eventually heal.”
Five Signs of a New Earth
Before his death in 1950, Sri Aurobindo provided five signs that indicate the dawning of a new earth:
- an exponential increase in man`s knowledge of the physical world
- an increase in man`s psychic ability
- a stronger, more concerted effort on the part of the dark powers to maintain control over earth
- the emergence of many leaders (like Hitler) with the power to influence large numbers of people
- increasing unification of the world through technology.
Many of these signs are already part of the 21st century. So are earthquakes and earth changes which seem to portend doom and gloom.
Windriver claims that somewhere between denial and fear lies a third path - the purposeful envisioning of a “brave new world based on the deepest truths of our being.” He warns man not to be sidetracked by fear (portrayed in the news media) or denial of existing challenges.
Taking a third path which understands both fear and denial without choosing either allows man to see that evolution is a necessary and painful step towards an emerging "world soul" which man has the responsibility to“ co-create with a new unified reality.”
According to this school of thought, man is standing before a massive shift in consciousness that gives him the chance to rebuild a new earth.
